 we'd like to give you a warm welcome to meridiem, but we unfortunately can't. for this country is a risky place, drenched in danger and deceit, with trouble lurking behind every door. let us warn you; meridiem is not an easy place to live in. your life will be tough, your relationships strenuous, and your tears aplenty. but you are brave, which is why we must tell you of our dire situation.
the country is slowly dying. just last summer, meridiem was brought to it's knees by a savage drought, and it's civilians are attempting to collect the shattered remains of their past country. a strange disease has also swept through the nation just about a year before, claiming the lives of many villagers and the infant prince, young william. the kingdom grieved greatly for the boy's death, and his father has become harsher and wishes for no more children.
the villagers are revolting. it seems that the peasants have blamed the king and queen for the recent drought. they come in mobs towards the castle gates, demanding that his and her majesties step down and pass their crown to one of their children. but they are unable; their eldest son is untrained in the art of ruling and their daughter seems to have a panic attack whenever the prospect of her ruling occurs in her mind. knights guard the castle gates, killing anyone who refuses to step down. desperate times call for desperate measures, they say.
the queen's brother is plotting. lord jonathan's grace, her majesty's beloved brother, has been a trusted member of queen florence's court since the beginning. but he has darker, more sinister ambitions other than becoming his sister's adviser. he wants his brother-in-law dead, along with his children. though he wants his plans carried out in secret, without involving him at all. he has a small group of civilians that support him, and keep watch over the king and his heirs, carefully plotting their downfall...
in this dark world, survival is not guaranteed, nor is happiness. but one thing is- your life will not be easy here, and if you plan on moving forward, your rise to power will be slow and back-breaking.
but it's worth it.
